Why do I have to do an interview?
The interpreting course is a professional qualification that demands a high level of intellectual and academic skills. Just knowing BSL is not sufficient to become an interpreter. We therefore operate a very strict selection process, involving an application stage and an interview stage. Applicants must pass both stages before being offered a place on the course.
During the application stage, we ask you to submit a CV and a BSL video. Your CV should highlight your professional experience working in the deaf community. Your BSL video should explain why you want to become an interpreter. In the BSL video, we are checking for BSL proficiency, including correct use of grammar, handshapes and facial expressions.
