New Selection Process for Interpreting Diploma

New Selection Process for Interpreting Diploma

Important update for people applying for our Level 6 Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting course from September 2025.

We are very grateful for the huge interest in our interpreting diploma course, which is testament to the success of our graduates. We continue to receive a high volume of applications for a limited number of places. Until now, we have operated on a first come, first serve basis, but we don’t feel that this is the fairest process. We have decided to change our selection process for the 2025/26 academic year so that we can select the best candidates who show strong academic and professional potential to become highly skilled interpreters and translators.

Our new selection process consists of two stages. The first stage is the application stage where we look at your previous qualifications, experience and BSL skills. If your application is selected, you will be invited to attend an online interview with the course leaders.

Application Stage

The application stage allows us to check you meet the minimum academic and professional requirements for the course. There is no fee for submitting an application.

When you apply, you will need to upload:

  1. Up-to-date CV detailing your previous professional experiences and academic qualifications (in particular any university degrees).
  2. URL link to a BSL video (maximum 4 minutes) talking about your reasons for wanting to become a BSL interpreter.

We will inform you by email if your application has been selected for interview.

Interview Stage

If we decide to select your application for an interview, you will be sent a link to book an interview. The interview costs £75 and is non-refundable even in the event that you are not offered a place on the course.

The interview will take place via Zoom and lasts for around 30 minutes. It will consist of two parts:

  1. Two-way interpreting simulation (10-15 minutes) – you will receive the topic when you book the interview.
  2. General questions about your ambitions for wanting to become a BSL interpreter and your expectations from the course. You can also take this opportunity to ask any questions you have about the course.

After the interview, we will contact you by email within 3-4 working days to inform you whether or not you have been successful in securing a place on the course.

If you choose to accept your place, you will be asked to sign a learning agreement and pay a non-refundable deposit. This will then confirm your enrolment on the course.

If you have any questions about the new selection procedure, or about the interpreting course in general, please contact [email protected].
